CHAPTER 55. BRÜCKNER'S LONG DRIVE SOUTH

CHAPTER 55

JON CLARKE PROVIDES A CAST-IRON ALIBI FOR BRÜCKNER

Two years ago an article by Jon Clarke in his newspaper the Olive Press slipped past those who have become bored with the endless speculation, disinformation, falsehoods and libels.

MADELEINE MCCANN SUSPECT DID DRIVE HIS WINNEBAGO ON A LONG JOURNEY THROUGH PORTUGAL ON NIGHT TODDLER WENT MISSING

Former girlfriend of Christian Brueckner also confirmed he was ‘obsessed’ with young girls and liked ‘violent sex’

A GIRLFRIEND of Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner has refused to discuss a robbery of €100,000 she is accused of masterminding with him.

The organised break-in of a luxury villa on the Algarve took place in the same year the British toddler, 3, vanished, in nearby Praia da Luz.

However, while Nicole Fehlinger, 45, refused to discuss it, she did admit she had spoken to Brueckner on the night Madeleine went missing in May 2007 AND he was on a long drive.

She also confirmed he was ‘obsessed’ with young girls and liked ‘violent sex’.

“He said he liked small bodies of women and he liked the bodies of girls before they reached puberty,” she told the Mail on Sunday.

In the intriguing interview in which she finally admits dating the dangerous German paedophile, she denied however that she was ‘an accomplice’ in his crimes.

EDIT

More suspiciously, Fehlinger – who was born in the same month and town in Germany as Brueckner – admitted she HAD spoken to her boyfriend on the night Maddie vanished.

She confirmed they had spoken by phone but she was vague about his movements AND exactly where he was coming from and to.

Or if she saw him later that night.

While she did not confirm if this was the critical 30-minute conversation someone had with Brueckner in Praia da Luz at 7.30pm just hours before Maddie vanished, she revealed he did ‘drive his winnebago’ van on a long five-hour journey that night.

This must be the same Tiffin Allegro Bay RV that Brueckner had told Fehlinger’s father, that year, he could smuggle 50kg of marijuana or a ‘small child’ adding: ‘nobody can catch you’.

She said Brueckner had rung to say he would be driving his winnebago to Foral from the town of Tomar, 341 kms north (at least a five-hour drive).

But she added that she didn’t remember if he had arrived at their shared home that night.

“I don’t know if he came late that night and parked his vehicle outside and slept in there, and left that morning again, or he did not turn up,” she said.

She added that Brueckner had pointedly speculated what might have happened to Madeleine in the ensuing days.

He told her Madeleine was probably taken by ‘the underworld’, which must mean a paedophile network, while adding ‘the police will never find her’.

Police have twice investigated and shut down paedophile rings in the northern Portuguese town of Tomar over the last 15 years, one centering around a priest and another a lawyer.

She added: “Looking back, his behaviour did not change and he did not look suspicious after Maddie disappeared – but he is a person who was good at hiding his feelings.”

A source at the Sat.1 TV documentary said: “She is definitely covering herself and being very selective with what she does and doesn’t reveal.”  END QUOTE

QUOTE FROM CURSORY INTERNET SEARCH
When generating estimated times for car routes, Google Maps assumes that the driver will be traveling at or near the posted speed limits for the roads along the route. However, Google Maps also takes into account real-time traffic conditions, which can cause delays or slow down the speed of travel on certain roads.

Some facts

Tomar to PdL = 400 km.

REF 2

Fuel consumption, Tiffin Allegro  40 l./100km =. 160 l.  [web site]

REF 3

NOTE: Winnebago is the name of a specific manufacturer.   It is strictly not a generic name for all mobile homes or camper vans, but we must accept that it has become so by common usage.

The vehicle in question is a Tiffin Allegro which is a large SUV ‘Mobile Home’, the size of a medium size bus.  On a long run on a straight Motorway it can ‘wind up‘ to close to the speed limit, though this is not advised or safe.

AVERAGE Speed 80 kph = 50 mph gives us the 5 hours as the time from Tomar to Foral, as quoted twice in the OP.
Then we must add the further hour or so driving to PdL, plus time for parking, for driving dead slow in PdL, plus, probably, a pit stop en route.

So reasonably 5 hours 45 minutes or 6 hours.

REF 4

(I have shown his parking the Motorhome on Rua Da Ramalhete, close to the junction with R. Dr Agostina da Silva so he can use the footpath between the two roads after having been seen by Jane Tanner)

REF 5

Brückner therefore either has to KNOW the exact time of the McCanns’ checks, by observations and “taking notes” throughout the week.  And those checks have to be in exactly the same sequence and at the same time “by his watch” every night of the week for that scenario to work.  We note that neither the McCanns nor Tapas 7 have made such a claim.

OR he has to get there and keep observations from the shadows until one or other McCann parent makes the check and THEN enter by forcing the shutters and leaping through the 40cm wide gap, or walking calmly past GM and JW and up the stairs to the open patio doors, before leaving by the front door which can be opened from the inside.

So he must be in place either by 2000 - 8pm, for observations, or exactly at 2100 - 9pm, to watch GM enter and exit through the unlocked patio doors, (or of course the locked front door)

All of which means he MUST have left Tomar around 2 pm or 2.30pm and driven direct to PdL

BUT Fehlinger says he rang “that night” and said that he “WOULD BE driving” [Present Conditional tense indicating future intention],  indicating in normal usage he had not at that moment even set off.

Fehlinger did not say “early afternoon” or “lunchtime”.  She said ‘That Night’.

Caveat: or at least that is what Jon Clarke and the Olive press report her as having said !

And she does not report that he said words to the effect, “I’ve come all the way from Tomar but am only half an hour away from you now.  See you soon Sweetheart.  Put the kettle on.”   which arguably might be reported as “That Night”.   Sunset on 3/5/7 was 2025 - 8:25pm, the earliest time at which anyone sane would describe the time as Night, so that conversation could reasonably take place only after 2030 - 8:30pm.

And by that time he must have been PAST Foral, on his way to PdL, which is another hour to the south by Tiffin Allegro,

In which case the quoted statements or paraphrases “He rang that night”  and “he would be driving his winnebago to Foral from the town of Tomar,” make even less sense than before.

What are we to make of all this ?

We can dismiss the whole thing as Tabloid fantasy

We can assume that Jon Clarke and the Olive Press have misunderstood and misreported

We can believe that Fehlinger is an unreliable witness for either prosecution or defence.

OR, we can think that perhaps she is giving or ‘leaking’ more or less correct information.

And if she sticks to that account, under oath, and Brückner confirms the journey and even perhaps the phone call, we then see that

Fehlinger and Jon Clarke/ Olive Press are giving Brückner a very strong

ALIBI
